We envision and build a resilient economy based on systemic principles respecting intergenerational and climate justice.

Roman Suleiman

I am the founder of SOLcollab.
My top-three values are curiosity, justice and integrity.

Curiosity is what motivated me to question and understand anything and everything from a young age on. I wanted to make sense of the environment I live in and how I relate to it. This led me to studying economics because I wanted to understand from the ground up how the global economy exactly ticks. In specific I hold a MSc in Finance and Strategic Management with a Minor in Sustainable Business from Copenhagen Business School and a BSc in Finance from University of Liechtenstein.

And this leads me to my second value, justice. When you study stock markets in-depth you realise that returns come at a cost. While it is naive to think that human activity can have zero impact, the question is how high that cost should be. This thought led me to learn all I could about different valuation methods. And I learned that ultimately it is quite simple. Money today is worth more than money tomorrow. But this also implies that you inevitably discount the future at the expense of young generations today.

This is why I believe it is important to incorporate the intergenerational - societal - dimension into financial decision making. And this includes the environmental dimension. Because at the end of the day we are talking about managing natural capital in a way, such that future generations will ideally have the same stock available.

But let us be clear. Upgrading our valuation methods and changing strategic direction accordingly is our best guess to stem off events that we cannot even imagine now. Or did you know that there are apparently around 6’300 shipwrecks in all oceans with a remaining amount of 15 million tons of oil? No? Neither did I until recently. But simply because problems seem too complex does not mean we should not tackle them.

Now we arrive at my last value, integrity. I do not have kids now, but when the time comes I want to tell them that I did what I could. And that I did not put my life above theirs for quick gains. This is why my purpose is realising the vision of SOLcollab and living my life accordingly.

It is okay to not get everything in life - where would you put it?

Yours,

Roman Suleiman
